Pantai Merah | The pink sand beach of Indonesia

Pantai Merah, also called Pantai Serai and Pink Beach, is one of the seven pink sand beaches on the planet. Located on the Indonesian island of Komodo, situated within a national park, its vibrant color is due to the microscopic fragments of red corals that mix with the shining white sand of the coast. There is a second theory for the pink color of the sand, the foraminifera pigment, which is carried by fragments of coral mixed with shells and calcium carbonate material.

The Saltiest Places On Earth

Many people mistakenly consider the seas and oceans to be the largest suppliers of salt. However, 96% of all water is in the World Ocean. It contains thousands of billions of tons of dissolved salts, and its salinity is constantly changing. At the poles, snow and ice significantly dilute the composition of the water. But there are places on our planet that have a much higher salt concentration. Here some saltiest places on earth.

Abandoned Monuments of Soviet Era

Mark O'Neill is an award winning photographer based in Reading, UK. From his travels to the former lands of Yugoslavia, Mark brought back a series of photographs of Monuments.

Each monument has a unique shape and texture. Exploring the landscape, the imagination brings these lonely monuments closer to the monuments of an ancient civilization, buried in the sands of time. In the language of sculpture, each monument invites to tell the story of its past. Wartime events worth remembering. The events are too horrific to be forgotten.

But for the International Space Station (ISS), which revolves around the Earth at an altitude of 403 km, our planet seems like a very small space. Houses, roads and buildings disappear. Even some of the largest man-made structures merge with the landscape. But there are also those that can be seen from the height of the Earth's orbit.
