The latest cargo aircraft, designed to transport large aviation components of Airbus, has begun work. The BelugaXL three-deck airliner will replace the existing fleet of cargo aircraft serving the Airbus production with a 30 percent increase in productivity.
For the first time, BelugaXL took off in July 2018, performing the first of 200 test flights. After spending a total of more than 700 hours in the air, in November 2019 the aircraft received type certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency.
With a length of 63 m and a width of 8 m, the aircraft became the champion in terms of cross-sectional length among all existing cargo aircraft in the world. The carrying capacity of the “air whale” is 51 tons of payload, which it is able to transport 4000 km.
The BelugaXL is based on the cargo Airbus A330-200. The engines used are a pair of Rolls Royce Trent 700. In total, six aircraft are currently planned to be built. The operation of new trucks will take place along with the previous model - BelugaSL , until outdated copies are not decommissioned in 2025.
