Eco-friendly smart city Fujisawa, Japan

In the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa, there is the most environmentally friendly city in the world, Fujisawa, which, according to the developers, should become the prototype of the city of the future. The Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town is designed for 3000 people, for whom 1000 houses were built. Fujisawa residents use renewable energy sources, use 30% less water and travel by electric vehicles and bicycles.

The opening ceremony of the “smart” city took place at the end of last year, but construction work here will last until 2018. The city gets 30% of its electricity from solar panels and some other renewable energy sources. The city has a 70% reduction in carbon footprint, and local residents can not only buy, but also rent environmentally friendly electric cars. All equipment is energy efficient, even street lighting works only when people are walking along the street. All public places are equipped with CCTV cameras, and all objects are managed from the Fujisawa SST Square architectural complex in the city center.

Fujisawa has an extensive network of filling stations for electric cars, and for those residents who do not have personal transport, electric scooters, bicycles and other eco-friendly vehicles are available for rent.

The city has its own Internet portal, which resembles both a message board and a social network. The security system for residents is ensured by video surveillance in public places and a system of sensors and sensors that allow, for example, to provide street lighting only when people are walking along the street, which makes it possible to use electricity more efficiently. In addition, all houses are connected to a security system.

The total cost of this project amounted to $ 500 million. In the future, it is planned to build and develop other cities according to the Fujisawa model.
