People Matching Artworks by Stefan Draschan

Stefan Draschan curious preys on curious shots in museum halls, like street photographers on the streets, turning their observations into pictures with funny and unexpected combinations. His work, perhaps, confirms the words of Oscar Wilde: "Life imitates art much more than art - life."

In order to replenish and expand his project “People Corresponding to Works of Art”, the Austrian photographer Stefan Draschan spends many hours in museums in Vienna, Berlin, and Paris. There he seeks out curious plots when the spectator reverently looking at the canvas merges harmoniously with the masterpiece, combining it with flowers or a pattern on clothes, pose, hairstyle or style.

“I started creating this series in 2015,” the photographer says. - If you look closely, you will notice that she is without productions, no one understands that I am photographing (from the back). This is a "street photograph" in its purest form. I am a voyeur and a hunter. I prefer to look for matches with paintings by old masters or with old art in general. Coincidences with contemporary art are quite common and too easy for me; I want to build a bridge between centuries, to connect different times. "

The photographer is looking for the perfect “correspondence” between the person and the museum exhibit, combining two motives in the frame and connecting the old with the new. He assures that all the pictures of the project are the result of patience and observation. Stefan Draschan has a personal website , as well as Instagram and Tumblr accounts , where he shares his work.
